In just two days, Kingsport will serve as the destination for the region’s largest health and wellness expo. Healthy Kingsport’s 4thannual Walk for Wellness Expo presented by Ballad Health will take place on Saturday, October 13th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Ballad Health’s campus located at 430 W. Ravine Road.
Healthy Kingsport is pleased to share just some of the reasons folks are clearing their calendars, lacing up their walking shoes, and showing up for the Walk for Wellness Expo:
Ashley Proffitt: I can bring my dogs out for a fun day, utilize the Greenbelt, and learn more about my personal health and wellness!
George Linke: I have enjoyed the 2 Million Mile City Challenge, and it will be fun for the whole family.
Erica Seals: I am bringing my son because I want to show him that being healthy is fun and easy, and he will enjoy the kid’s corner full of games!
Margaret Canfield Elsea: We all need to do our best to live healthy lives, and events like this reinforce that idea and show that you can have fun also.
Cody Woods: Among all the other great things available for free this day, I can also go ahead and get my flu shot for free.
Trenna Wright: After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Fibro, and several other illnesses within the last two years, I have been devoted to eating cleaner and living a healthier lifestyle – not only for me but for my family as well.
Haley White: Health and wellness is important to me, and I am excited to shop at the new Farmers Market Alley to get fresh and seasonal produce.
Dianna Hardin McLemore: I’ve made a resolution to live healthier, and I think it’s great that Healthy Kingsport is doing so much to support community wellness.
The Walk for Wellness Expo will feature 93 health and wellness vendors all with great giveaways, including t-shirts, water bottles, pedometers, stress balls, and more. Additionally, folks can take advantage of free health screenings and services such as a mobile dental clinic—Appalachian Miles for Smiles, a mobile vision unit, blood pressure checks, diabetes analyses, stress checks, and more! Free flu shots will also be available.
The event is beneficial not only for attendees, but also for the vendors involved. “The Walk for Wellness Expo appeals to all ages and attendees come from a wide variety of backgrounds making it an ideal venue for the Health Resources Center team to reach a broad demographic of our community with health and wellness education. The event provides an opportunity for us to encourage participants to start or continue a life-long journey to optimal health,” said Laurel McKinney, manager of Health Resources Centers for Ballad Health.
A new addition to this year’s event will give attendees a chance to purchase fresh, healthy produce from local farmers. Walk through Farmers Market Alley, enjoy the fall scenery, and see what yummy produce is in season. The event also features an entire area dedicated to kid’s health and wellness. Two community walks for all ages and physical activity levels will take place on the Greenbelt, which offers a smooth paved surface making it a great place for strollers, wheelchairs, and pets.
There is also a section of the expo dedicated to kid’s wellness. Outdoor games (e.g., archery, giant Jenga, and corn hole) will be paired with the Exchange Place Living History Farm, Lego building, rock and face painting, and balloon animal making.
Most importantly, you won’t want to miss the history-making announcement around our community’s progress toward logging two million miles of physical activity in a year’s time. Our collective effort is being recognized across Tennessee as a promising practice to address a physical inactivity rate of 33%, which is higher than both the state and national averages.
Folks from all over the region are invited to come out to this free event. Pre-register today at healthykingsport.org for a chance to win an Apple Watch Series 3 and other great prizes.
